Mr. Swettenham is willing to agree to
the change.
10. That the memorialist is to understand that he is to be employed where he could do
work, that he would even accept the post of Assistant Colonial Secretary Ceylon, to which he was appointed in 1876, if it were not that he fears that (as pension is calculated on
the salary drawn at the date of retirement) he might by so doing prejudice his claims to the amount of pension which otherwise he would already have earned; and that he has some doubt whether he would now be able to work satisfactorily
all the year round, in an extreme red-hot port, in Colombo,
as he would have
to do as Assistant Colonial Secretary Ceylon. As Auditor General he will in the discharge of his duty obtain by alternation from
tours of inspection.
Your Lordship's humble memorialist begs that Your Lordship will be so good as to grant the prayer of his memorial, and sanction an exchange between himself and the Auditor General of Ceylon;
